Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Derek James has been living in San Francisco since 1993. He’s been an active free-lance musician since then especially jazz and salsa. Since 2002, he’s played in the pit for a number of Broadway shows in SF, including The Producers, The Lion King, Wicked, A Chorus Line, The King and I, and Hello, Dolly!. He also plays in the Green Street Mortuary Band and the Grammy award winning Pacific Mambo Orchestra.
