Is there a dress code?
We do not have a formal dress code. Guests are welcome to come as they are, though we ask that everyone dress appropriately for a theatre setting (shirts and shoes required).

When should I arrive before curtain?
We recommend arriving around 30 minutes before curtain to allow time for ticket pickup, restrooms, and concessions. The lobby and bar usually open one hour before curtain.

What is your policy on photography and videography?
Photography and videography during the performance are not permitted unless expressly authorized. Unauthorized recordings may be requested to be deleted. Photos and videos are allowed before and after the show.

What is the seating capacity?
San Francisco Playhouse seats 199 patrons in an intimate setting.

What is your seating policy for late arrivals?
Late seating is offered at the discretion of House Management and may only occur during an appropriate pause in the performance. Late patrons may be temporarily seated in alternate locations until intermission.

What is your policy on re-entry during the performance?
Re-entry is allowed at intermission or another suitable break. Guests who leave during the performance may need to wait for an appropriate pause before returning to their seats.

Where can I buy San Francisco Playhouse merchandise?
Merchandise such as tote bags and hats is available at the concessions bar.

Are there age recommendations for children?
We do not enforce a strict age restriction, but some productions may not be suitable for young children. Every audience member must have a ticket and be able to remain quietly seated. Babes-in-arms are generally not admitted.

Can I bring outside food or drinks?
Outside food and beverages are not permitted. Items purchased on-site may be brought into the auditorium.

Are alcoholic beverages allowed?
Alcohol purchased at the Playhouse bar may be brought into the theatre, except on the mezzanine railing. Outside alcohol is prohibited. We reserve the right to refuse service.

Does the bar have a Happy Hour?
Yes. Our “Happy Half-Hour” runs from house opening (typically one hour before curtain) until 30 minutes prior. Post-show Happy Hour is sometimes available except after Saturday matinees.

Do you offer concessions?
Yes. Snacks and beverages are available before performances and during intermission. Cash and major credit cards are accepted.

Do you offer coat or bag check?
Yes. Coat and bag check is available with a suggested $5 donation per item. Space is limited.

Where are the restrooms located?
All restrooms are all-gender inclusive. Main restrooms are on the orchestra level; additional restrooms are on the mezzanine.

Where are the water fountains?
Water fountains are located near the men’s restroom in the lobby.

Do you have elevators?
Yes. Elevator access is available through the Kensington Park Hotel lobby. Press “2” for the Box Office and orchestra level, or “2M” for the mezzanine.

Is the theatre wheelchair accessible?
Yes. ADA seating is available on the mezzanine level via elevator. Orchestra seating requires a short staircase. Complimentary assisted listening devices are offered with an ID. Mobility devices can be stored by House Management.

Are animals allowed in the theatre?
Only licensed service dogs on leash are allowed. Emotional support animals are not permitted.

Does the Kensington Park Hotel offer patron discounts?
Yes. The hotel offers a discount to Playhouse patrons. Mention your ticket purchase when booking.

Getting Here

How can I get to the theatre?
The theatre is located at 450 Post Street in Union Square. It is a four-block walk from Powell Street BART/Muni. A loading zone in front of the theatre is convenient for taxis and rideshares.

Where should I park?
We recommend the Sutter–Stockton Garage at 444 Stockton Street. Additional garages are available nearby.

Box Office & Ticketing

How can I contact the Box Office?
The Box Office is located on the second floor of the Kensington Park Hotel. Hours are Tuesday–Saturday, 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., for walk-up and phone service. Closed on Mondays and some holidays.

What is your refund and exchange policy?
All sales are final. Non-subscriber tickets may be exchanged at the Box Office’s discretion and may incur a fee. Subscriber exchanges are generally free.

What health and safety protocols are in effect?
Protocols vary based on public health guidelines. Current measures are listed on our Health & Safety page.

How can I stay informed about upcoming productions and events?
Subscribe to our email list for updates on shows, special events, discounts, and a monthly message from our Artistic Director.

Do you offer tours?
Small-group tours may be arranged in advance, depending on schedule availability. Contact the Box Office to inquire.

Do you offer group pricing?
Yes. Groups of 10 or more qualify for special pricing. Call (415) 677-9596 ext. 206.

Are there discounts for students, seniors, educators, or military members?
Yes. Discounted subscription options are available for seniors, students, and educators. Additional single-ticket discounts vary by production.

Accessibility & Guest Services

Do you offer assisted listening devices?
Yes. Complimentary assisted listening devices are available with a valid ID.

Do you offer audio description, haptic tours, or live captioning?
Yes, for select performances. Audio description and haptic tours are offered for visual accessibility needs, and live captioning is available for designated performances. Dates are listed on our Accessibility page.

How do I request accessibility accommodations?
Contact the Box Office in advance to request wheelchair seating, assisted listening devices, captioning, or other accommodations.

Working, Volunteering & Rentals

Where can I find job opportunities?
Job openings are listed on our website under Get Involved. Please follow the application instructions provided.

Can I volunteer?
Yes. Volunteer ushers support House Management by greeting patrons, distributing programs, and assisting with seating.

Is the theatre available for rental?
Yes. The venue is available for select rental events depending on schedule availability. Contact our rentals team via the Rent Our Space page.

Subscriptions, Gifts & Donations

How can I subscribe?
You may purchase a full-season subscription or a flexible 6-ticket FlexPass. Discounts are available for seniors, students, and educators.

Can I purchase gift certificates or FlexPasses?
Yes. Gift certificates and FlexPasses are available and can be used for eligible performances.

Can I purchase playbills or recordings?
Printed playbills are free to take home while supplies last. Recordings of productions cannot be sold due to licensing restrictions.

How can I donate?
Donations can be made online, by phone, or in person. San Francisco Playhouse is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and gifts are tax-deductible.

What is the Inner Circle?
The Inner Circle recognizes donors who give $1,500 or more within a calendar year and offers benefits such as lounge access, complimentary wine at select performances, and invitations to special events.
