Performance Accessibility

San Francisco Playhouse is committed to making both our art and our website accessible to all audiences.

At our mainstage venue, we have Assisted Listening Devices (ALDs) available for all performances free of charge. We ask that you provide an ID or credit card as a deposit. ALDs include both T-coil and neck loop capabilities. Inventory is limited, so we encourage patrons to contact the Box Office in advance if more than two devices will be needed for their party. Assisted Listening Devices are not currently available at the Creativity Theater.

Audio Description and Haptic Tours

For audience members with visual accessibility needs, San Francisco Playhouse partners with Gravity Access Services to offer live audio description and haptic access tours for selected performances. Audio description is a live audio track spoken by a professional audio describer to audience members with visual impairments through a wireless headset system. It provides clear and engaging descriptions of the meaningful visual details of a performance. Haptic access tours (20-30 minutes) are a live pre-show tour that allows patrons to experience — through touch and their own movement — the space, performers, costumes and objects in addition to key movement elements in the performance.

For more information, to book a spot in a Haptic Access Tour or to reserve a headset please call: 415.677.5956.

Website Accessibility

With our ongoing accessibility efforts, we are striving to meet or exceed Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 level AA.

We are constantly working to improve the accessibility of our website in order to provide an inclusive experience to all users, including those with visual, hearing, cognitive and motor impairments.

As part of our efforts, while we do not control third-party content, we strongly encourage our vendors of third-party digital content to provide solutions that are equally accessible and just as user-friendly.

We welcome your comments and suggestions. If you encounter any accessibility barriers, please let us know by emailing info@sfplayhouse.org or calling 415-677-9596. If possible, please include “Website Accessibility” in the subject line and provide a description of the specific feature you feel is not equally accessible.
